GCIU electors certify 37 candidates for 13 offices

The GCIU Board of Electors has tallied nominations from local unions for candidates seeking International and regional offices and certified a total of 37 candidates eligible to run for 13 different offices.

The electors also certified three Canadian candidates as elected without opposition: Vice Pres. C Duncan K. Brown and General Board members Mike R. Zajac and George Novak.

To qualify as a candidate for international office, GCIU members must receive nominations from at least 10 percent of all locals for general office or 10 percent of the locals in their region for General Board contests.

Those receiving a sufficient percentage of nominations include:

  • President: Incumbent Pres. James J. Norton (Boston 600M) and George Tedeschi (Nassau County 406C).

  • Secretary-Treasurer: Incumbent Secy.-Treas. Gerald H. Deneau (Detroit-Toledo-Lansing 289M), Harold D. Delchamp (Washington 285M), and Brian J. Bobal (Baltimore 582M).

  • Vice President A: David A. Grabhorn (Los Angeles 388M) and Joseph M. O'Connor (Providence 12N).

  • Vice President B: Incumbent Vice Pres. Garry D. Foreman (Indianapolis 17M) and Edward Toff (Philadelphia 14M).

  • Vice President C: Duncan K. Brown (British Columbia 525M) was certified as elected without opposition.

  • Vice President D: Incumbent Vice Pres. Leonard E. Adams (Neenah 77P) and Thomas E. Hennigan (Scranton 97B).

  • Vice President E: Incumbent Lawrence Martinez (Denver 440M) and James A. Miller (Kansas City 235M).

  • General Board, Atlantic Region (three to be elected): Incumbent Andrew Douglas (Philadelphia 14M), Lynn R. Lanphear (Rochester 503M), Art McCullough (New York 1L), Edward A. Treacy (West Caldwell 612M), and Wesley L. Wicks (Washington 1C). Candidate Wallace J. McDade (Washington 538C) received sufficient nominations but withdrew from the race.

  • General Board, Central Region (three to be elected): Incumbent David R. Jacobs (Detroit 2C), Incumbent Charles E. Timmel (Chicago 458-3M), Incumbent Christopher Yatchak (Milwaukee 557M), Dale Apke (Effingham 391C), Dexter A. Denney (OKI 508M), and Robert Lacey (Evansville 571M).

  • General Board, Mountain Region (two to be elected): Paul F. Greene (Denver 440M), Joyce F. Hurley (Twin Cities 1B), George Osgood (St. Paul 1M) and Kenneth O. Truemper (St. Louis 505M).

  • General Board, Pacific Region (two to be elected): Incumbent John D. Bachler (Seattle 767M), incumbent Fred Correll (Los Angeles 388M), and Dennis Hayden (Seattle 747M).

  • General Board, Southern Region (one to be elected): Incumbent Thomas L. Jolley (Atlanta 527S) and Robert Kelly (Chattanooga 197M).

  • General Board, Canadian Region (two to be elected): Incumbents Mike R. Zajac (Toronto 500M) and George Novak (Toronto 100M) were certified as re-elected without opposition.

Any last-minute changes or withdrawals will be reflected on the ballots that are sent to members.
