Letter Carriers set 8th
National Food Drive
The National Association of Letter Carriers is gearing up for the
eighth annual National Food Drive on May 13.
The letter carriers are proud that their drive to raise food for those in need has become the largest
single volunteer effort in the country each year. About 240,000 friendly mail carriers are available
to pick up non-perishable food items at mailboxes in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states.
The food collections are brought to post offices for delivery to soup kitchens and local food banks
that can distribute them to the needy. Last year, the one-day drive raised 58.4 million pounds of
food for the hungry.
GCIU members who are interested in helping with the drive can contact NALC branches in their
communities.
