Ten young scholars from across the United States and Canada were
selected by the GCIU Scholarship Committee as winners of the Anthony J. DeAndrade
scholarships for the year 2000. The winners will receive an award totaling $2,000 in increments of
$500 per year over four years to assist them with their continuing education in schools of their
choice.
"We are proud that these sons and daughters of our members are able to continue their education
and become better citizens in both the U.S. and Canada. Education is a priority with the GCIU,
and I am happy we can help them with their scholastic goals," said GCIU Pres. George Tedeschi.
Two scholarships are awarded in each of five geographic regions. The 2000 winners are:

Frances Lewis, daughter of Philadelphia 14M member Norman Charles.

Wynnett Kinzelman, son of Racine 254M member Marc Jude Kinzelman.

Daniel Pettibone, son of Terry Lee of OKI 508M.
Region 4: Sarah Nicole Kunz, daughter of Kenneth C. and Sandra M. Kunz, both members of St.
Louis 6M; and Kenji Timothy Yamada, son of Akio Yamada of Los Angeles 388M.
Region 5: Christopher Robert Smith, son of Robert Neil Smith of British Columbia 525M; and
John Allen Versluis, son of Edward Adrienne of Hamilton 176C.
