New York 1L wins Colahan
and Saunders vote
A victory for GCIU's New York 1L added the Colahan and Saunders
lithographic plant to the GCIU rolls.
During a whirlwind campaign, local officers joined shop workers in making house calls on
prospective members. The result was a 16 to 6 vote for the GCIU on Sept. 14.
During the campaign, Local 1L Pres. Patrick LoPresti and staff held meetings to inform plant
workers why a vote for GCIU would be in their own best interests. The workers were convinced
enough to wear union hats and T-shirts into the shop.
The negotiations committee, including LoPresti, First Vice Pres. Joe Curto, and shop delegates
Marcos Otero and Alberto Reyes, are scheduling first talks with management.
