75 GCIU members win $20,000 in political action raffle

Some 75 lucky GCIU members won a total of $20,000 in cash prizes in the 2001 raffle to raise money for the Political Action Fund.

At the drawing for the raffle prizes during the February General Board meeting, GCIU Vice Pres. Lawrence Martinez thanked all the locals and members in the United States and Canada who participated in the political fund raising event.

"Every contribution that locals and members make, whether it's money or time donated for political education, canvassing, telephone banks, and register-and-vote drives, helps to take another step toward electing worker friendly candidates to federal, state, provincial and local offices," Martinez said.

The top 10 locals selling the most $5 tickets for the raffle were: Philadelphia 14M; Toronto 500M; Buffalo 261M; Seattle 767M; Chattanooga 197M; Evansville 571M; St. John's 441S; Newark 8N; Milwaukee-Madison 577M; and Denver 440M.
