"Standing up for steel" during a Feb. 28 demonstration outside the White House are Richard J.
Whitworth, executive assistant to the GCIU president; and Contract and Samantha Draper,
Contract and Research Department analyst. They were among a contingent of GCIU headquarters
employees who attended a rally that drew 25,000 unionists to urge President Bush to save the
U.S. steel industry by raising tariffs on imported steel. A week later, the administration
implemented 30 percent tariffs on imports.
