Past St. Paul 1M leader O'Keefe dies

Kevin D. O'Keefe Sr., retired president of St. Paul 1M and former General Board member, died of cancer Jan. 16 in Morton, Minn. He was 62.

GCIU Pres. George Tedeschi, who served with O'Keefe on the General Board, expressed condolences to O'Keefe's family. "Kevin always worked for the members and sought the best for the union. He will certainly be missed."

O'Keefe joined the GCIU in November 1969. He worked as a lithographer and camera operator at Harrison & Smith, Anderson Graphics, Brown & Bigelow, Midwest Printing, and the Smythe Company.

O'Keefe became secretary-treasurer of the local in 1985 and became president in March 1991. He served in that post until he left office in December 1998.

He was elected to the GCIU General Board for the Mountain Region in 1996 and served in that post until 1999. While on the General Board, O'Keefe served on the Legislative Committee.

As local president, O'Keefe also served as a trustee for the GCIU Supplemental Retirement and Disability Fund and the Inter-Local Pension Fund.

Survivors include his wife Angie; daughters Marie, Anne, Beth, Eileen, and Kateri; son Kevin Jr.; and four grandchildren.
