President appoints four new
International organizers
The GCIU General Board approved the hiring of four full-time
organizers with members who had served organizing internships.
New organizers are Mike Huggins of Indianapolis 17M, Jessica Martinez of Milwaukee-Madison
577M, Rick Putman of St. Louis 6-505M, and Henry Rumph of Washington 449S. They became
part of the Organizing staff as of the March General Board session. They were appointed by
GCIU Pres. George Tedeschi on the recommendations of Organizing Director Bert Haft and the
General Board Organizing/Subsidy Committee.
The new organizers will be included in a joint GCIU/AFL-CIO organizing team effort.
The GCIU has a grant from the AFL-CIO and a partnership with AFL-CIO organizing staff for a
joint campaign throughout the United States.
GCIU Vice Pres. Duncan K. Brown, who chairs the board Organizing/Subsidy Committee,
indicated that part of the strategy is to help corporate officers understand that their time and
money could be better spent not being unfriendly toward the GCIU.
