New York 1L takes Acme Printing union

New York 1L members' reputations as quality crafts people and one member's strong loyalty to the union brought 10 new members into the local.

On Feb. 21, Local 1L Pres. Patrick LoPresti received a phone call from Bob Heller, the owner of Acme Printing in New York City, requesting a meeting.

When the two met, Heller said his non-union shop was inundated with work and he wanted to hire pressman John Zocalli. However, Zocalli told Heller he would work for him only if Acme were a union employer.

"After recognizing the great talent pool of professionals available to him though the local and the advantages of becoming a union shop," Heller signed a full contract with the local, reported Local 1L First Vice Pres. Joe Curto.
