Peck had been an International representative since 1987. International Pres. George Tedeschi said Peck's death "is a great loss. He was widely respected and liked by the GCIU field and office staff, local union leaders and members, and employers alike. He will be very much missed." Born in Merrill, Wis., Peck joined Local 370C in 1953 when he took a job as a letter pressman assistant at Marathon Corp.'s Wausau, Wis., plant. He served as recording secretary and secretary-treasurer of Local 370C. After the Marathon plant was taken over by American Can, Peck transferred to American Can's new plant in Chambersburg, Pa., in 1961. He helped organize the new plant in 1962. A charter member of Chambersburg 712S, Peck served as the local's temporary president until he was elected secretary-treasurer in 1963 and held that office for 18 years. In 1963, Peck was elected president of Printing Specialties District Council 6. In February 1969, he was elected as the first full-time representative for the council and held that post until he joined the International staff. Peck served as president of the Eastern Conference for two years. He also served as executive vice president of the conference for eight years. He was the Eastern vice president of the North American Specialty Unions Conference for a decade until his appointment to the International staff. Peck is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughter Ellen Bowman; daughter-in-law Katie Peck; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by son Jeffrey L. Peck. The family requested that, in lieu of flowers at the funeral, memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice.
