Bryn Griffiths, former president of the Graphical, Paper and Media Union (GPMU) of the United Kingdom, and the European Graphical Federation (EGF), died April 7. Griffiths was elected vice president of the International Graphical Federation in 1985 and became vice president of the EGF when it was formed in 1988. At the 1991 London Congress, he became president of the EGF, a position he held until his retirement in 1994. Under Griffiths' leadership, the EGF and IGFnow part of the Union Network International (UNI)moved their headquarters from Berne, Switzerland, to their present location in Brussels, Belgium, and became a leading player in global unionism. He helped to forge strong ties with the European Trades Union Congress, European Commission, European Parliament, and the International Labor Organization. Adriana Rosenzvaig, who heads the UNI Graphical Department, said: "Although Bryn's accomplishments deserve the highest commendation, he will be especially remembered and loved as a kind and compassionate comrade who worked tirelessly on behalf of working people and their trade unions, not just in the United Kingdom and Europe, but throughout the world."
