GCIU keglers party in Pittsburgh like it's

The GCIU Bowling Party remains true to the vision of its founding
fathers it's a party. This year's party, the 51st Annual GCIU Bowling Party, was held in
Pittsburgh.
This year, 22 teams made up of active and retired GCIU members came with hopes of taking back
trophies.
Team trophies were as follows:
- Men's first place was Five Well-Dressed Guys, with a score of 3,061. The team had four
members from Toronto 500M Brian Hanna, Martin Caprani, Dave Swindells, and Dave
Bolton and one member from Toronto 100M, Rey Gomez.
- Women's First Place team was Buffalo Gals and One Bull with a score of 3,268. All from
Buffalo 17B, were Sandy Corbelli, Lydia Androszko, Toni Revekant, Rita Sobczak, and Terry
Michalak.
- Men's second place team, with a score of 3,027, was Rochester 503, from Rochester 503M.
Teammates were Doug Dinsmore, Jim Vernetti, Tom Eagan, Alan Morris, and Dick Johansson.
- Men's third place team was the Pittsburgh #9, from Pittsburgh 9N, with a 2,992 score.
Teammates were William Madden, Ed Jenkins, Charles Kleinhampl, Guy Stehle, and Pat Kane.
- Last place team was Pittsburgh 24, from Pittsburgh 24M, with a score of 2,567. Teammates
were Harry Edkins, Bill Bruder Sr., Bill Bruder Jr., Mark Hudson, and Kent Bassler.
Individual trophies were as follows:
- Men's first place high series scratch, Ed Jenkins, Pittsburgh 9N, with a 704 score; Sandy
Corbelli, Buffalo 17B, high series with handicap with a 720 score; Tom Egan, Rochester 503M,
high game scratch with a 242 score; and David O'Neill, Pittsburgh 9N, high game with handicap
with a 274 score.
- Women's first place awards went to Cherie Lynn Frederick, Buffalo 17B, high series scratch
with a 571 score; Lydia Androszko, Local 17B, high series with handicap with a 689 score; Willa
Jones, Buffalo 17B, high game scratch with a 237 score; and Rita Sobczak, Local 17B, high game
with handicap with a 254 score.
- Men's second place awards went to William Madden, Pittsburgh 9N, high series scratch,
611 score; Brian Hanna, Toronto 500M, high series with handicap, 693 score; Dick Johansson,
Rochester 503M, high game scratch, 237 score; Rey Gomez, Toronto 100M, high game with
handicap, 248 score.
- Low game and series trophies went to Bill Bruder, Pittsburgh 24M, men's lowest series,
246 score; Rose Polus, Buffalo 17B, women's lowest series, 352 score; Bob Lignowski,
Pittsburgh 24M, men's lowest game, 73 score; and Judy Conners, Salem 546M, women's lowest
game with a 73 score.
The coveted Jack Benshop Award for service to the Bowling Party is given each year. The award
is named for the late Chicago ALA leader who helped found the Bowling Party and served as
president for 20 years. This year, the award was shared by two Pittsburgh leaders
Pittsburgh 24M Pres. Louis Blauth and Chris V. Lang III of Pittsburgh 9N.
The Y2K (year 2000) Bowling Party will be held in Toronto next April.
