As the pressroom chapel chairman at The New York Times, Joseph Lawlor of New York 2N was invited to go to Lyon, France, with Times management to receive the first place Color Quality Award for excellence in color printing on newsprint from the IFRA, the international association for newspaper and media technology, and the National Newspaper Association.

Lawlor said the unit members were surprised and pleased by the invitation. "It was the first time the union was recognized for something we were part of – winning that award."
